Friendly School

The project "Friendly school - integration and education" is a comprehensive proposal to support the inclusion and continuation of education of refugee children in Polish schools. This is a project that responds to the challenges that arise in connection with the amendment of the Act on assistance to citizens of Ukraine and the related school obligation.

The planned activities respond to two main priorities:

1. language and educational support for senior secondary school students and high school graduates

and

2. activities supporting the integration of Polish and Ukrainian students in schools.

The general objective of the project is to support the inclusion of children and young people with migration and refugee experience in the Polish education system and to continue their education by providing them with a friendly school environment, including support in the integration of Polish and Ukrainian students.

Therefore, the project will be implemented through the following activities:

1. Remedial classes in schools and at the Emic Foundation for senior secondary school students and high school graduates, as well as for young people in younger classes as part of integration support.

As part of the action, we plan to organize classes that will equalize educational opportunities and the level of the Polish language among young people. Classes will be organized in schools and in parallel at the Emic Foundation. These classes will be particularly focused on high school leaving exam subjects, but also on those in which young people indicate difficulties.

2. Intensive group classes preparing for the Polish language Matura exam during the winter break at the Emic Foundation in Toruń and Bydgoszcz

The Matura is a maturity exam that is beyond the linguistic reach of many students with migration experience. Many of them, fearing failure due to the language barrier, give up on it. The intensive group classes we propose to prepare for the Matura in Polish will not only strengthen the group of young people linguistically, but will also prepare them for what the Matura in Polish looks like.

3. Educational program "Friendly school - integration and education" including:

a) Webinars strengthening the skills of teaching staff in the area of including students with migration and refugee experience.

b) Workshops for young people on creating and implementing student projects, including creating a poster exhibition "Let's get to know each other".

c) Integration student projects.

d) The "Get to Know Us" poster exhibition developed by young people for young people throughout Poland.

e) Support of a cultural mentor in a psychological and pedagogical counselling centre and in schools
